Eliana Schuster
The artist Eliana Schuster has atmospheric memories of her very early years in Havana, before her parents sailed with her to Miami when she was 5 years old. The subtle shifts in the Carribean light made for ample shadow play on the walls of her family's colonial era flat. Schuster's abstraction at once refined and playful, pulls from a palette that is part Cuba, part suburban Miami.
In the late aughts, Schuster moved to Los Angeles to attend art school and turned to the popular language of billboards, movies and fashion magazines as a jumping off point for bolder, hyperexpressive works.
Lusting after color and a true sense of immediacy, she winds her way through collage, palimpsest, painting and photography for a unique perspective of the world around her.
